Anime News Networks wrote:
Plot Summary: Japan has been invaded and conquered by the Britannic Empire. Japan are now known as "Area 11" and it's citizens known as "elevens." The Britannic Empire takes away Japan's autonomous power and imposes it's rule. The Britannic Empire enforces it's rule through the use of 'Nightmares'. The Empire's rule has never faltered, but cracks have begun to show...

I watched the first episode, seem's like it's going to be a very interesting
anime.

Anybody else watched this yet?

The "nightmare's" in the anime are Mech's. There was heaps of blood and senseless violence.
Yeah I would say there was fanservice a plenty Twisted Evil

Only the first ep is out, so there maybe fanservice of the kind you are looking for, although I would (at this point) so no.

well.... the "Last" episode has been shown....

for those who have seen it, what did you think? i can say that i'm none too happy about the wait, but still... does this mean that the next two are slated for an OVA release (like A!MG) or are they just taking a break?

Shocked Wink Very Happy

I dunno if this annoys me or titillates me or does both.
Code Geas sounds interesting, moral dilemmas fascinate me, but this sort of stuff just cheapens a show IMO.

Omni blog says "the MBS GEASS site has a note announcing that episodes 24 and 25 wonít be airing until summer of this year. They donít provide any further details, so we might be in for a long wait."
My guess is that the last 2 ep of season 1 will be shown maybe half way through the wait for season 2 (i have read however that they may be show in late april).

What really bugs me is the conversation that Suzaku and Lulu have on the phone right at the end. It can so easily be intepreted two ways. It all depends on exactly what V.V. told Suzaku.

I remeber when CG first started everyone was saying "its just gundam seed under a different name" (mind you the lacus clone and suz ideals didn't help in that argument) or "Its anti-US" just because of a one second clip in the first ep. Yet now all they say is "dam you sunrise hurry up with the new ep already"... funny how a few weeks can change everything.

Why not? It's the largest and most successful empire the world has ever known. And it still exists to this very day, after all we live in it. And it will probably still exist after the US has long ceased to be a memory.

In the late 19th/early 20th century, the Japanese wanted to be like the European powers (particularly Germany) so much that they ended up imitating their bad points (there was also the matter of "Oh no, we're going to be made into a colony of a European nation! What are we going to do? We'll need to become a colonial power ourselves!")

I think we all know where that led.

Well, sorta. During that period, I think the Japanese realised that they wouldn't be able to maintain their autonomy and pride unless they took significant steps to modernise their state.

They did this very quickly and efficiently and went from Medieval to post-industrial in an amazing period of time (this was completed not long after WWII). The European nations were more than happy to assist in this, as it would enable them to have a powerful ally in the east which would not rely on them to maintain its power and, as a result, would be a good counterbalance to Russia.

But Japan was a little too successfull at their modernisation, and the Western nations became fearful and began to restrict/limit trade with Japan. Needless to say, and nation in the midst of the industrial revolution is probably at the most resource hungry period of development and desperately needed more resource. Since Japan is relatively poor in anything except silver, they needed to expand and quickly.

The end result, is that Europe and America (even our own nation to a lesser extent) are partially responsible for Japanese expansionism. That having been said, the manner in which they chose to conduct themselves during war leaves a great deal to be desired.

Back to the primary Topic: Very Happy
I watched the first five episodes of this over the last couple of days, and I gotta say that I'm impressed. The main characters are intriguing and the plot is almost unique.

It is somewhat similar to Gundam Seed in many of its themes, but I think that the actual plot and characters are different enough to sustain this criticism.

Also, the character designs rock Wink

hmmm.... you're right, it does remind me of seed, but seed destiny more than the original, especially because of the personality of "Zero"
He's soooo Evil...
that face he makes at the end of episode one says it all Very Happy that was GREAT!
Right after he makes the squad kill themselves
(he IS the good guy... right?)

it kinda reminds me of.... Spiral crossed with Seed Destiny (in that we are following two factions that neither are really "Good" and... i guess i can't really explain it that well...)

character designs by CLAMP... what more could you want?
Maybe, except for an ending in a realistic time frame...

oh, whats SRW?

High quality aninmation, When fighting they use strategy (as apose to Seeds fly and shoot randomly method) and Zero is alot like light from Death Note (evilsh + high IQ), and above all ealse it has a much better story then some of the other anime thats been out recently.
Also good to watch if you are anti-Lacus & Kira .The kira clone is made to look like a complete idiot because of his ideals , and the one line from Kallen "who decides whos right and wrong" is another shot at kira. (As for the lacus clone...well just watch ep 23)

its just in some other forums they where having a field day over this (and anyway if they didn't watch seed then what would they whine about then?)
Anyway forget about that, as you said lets move on.

The thread re-awakens and with good reason as episodes 24 & 25 aired over the weekend and I just finished watching them.

Two things of note:
1:An impressively high body count. No major characters but several second tier characters bite the dust

2: $#*& Sunrise and their cliffhangers. It's worse than what they left episode 23 on. Hurry up with Season 2 already! Evil or Very Mad

unfortunately ep 25 hadn't finished before i had to go to work, so i've only got as far as that, but... a cliffhanger bigger than ep 23??? *sigh* ah well... i just hope it means we got more geass later this year (or early next)

edit:
WHAAAAAAT!!! THEY LEFT US WITH THAT????!!!

I awaken this shambling corpse of a thread (okay not really but it sounds good) and expose it to the light of day for it's time has come again. In normal speak, first episode of the second season has screened and it's time for reactions and endless speculation.

Good to see Lulu getting back into the swing of things, but as to be expected from the first episode one is left with a lot of questions. Top two being who is Rolo and where is Nunnally?

Most of the other questions are variations of the theme of 'How the <expletive> did that happen?'

Final thoughts:
1) The art in the ending is awesome, though one shot of C.C. makes her look like Yuuko from xxxHOLiC.

2) I propose that female mecha pilots should all make bunny suits their official uniforms.

Man, I love it. The premier R2 has not failed to captivate me.

It's raised so many questions, like what Knight of L-sama mentioned but also what the hell happened the time during the end of season 1 to season 2?

Here's some history of the Code Geass world, from the mechatalk forum:

Quote:
History Lesson #1: The Origin of Britannia (Part 1)

2. The year 1 a.t.b. = the year a member of a Celtic tribe became "King" ("leader" is more correct) of his tribe after rebelling against Julius Caesar's invasion of Britannia and consequently winning independence from Rome. This man is supposedly the ancestor of Britannian royalty.

(*Not included here, but I thought I should mention that while the years are always written as "xxxx a.t.b." in the show, the characters themselves usually use "Year xxxx of the Imperial Calendar")

History Lesson #2: The Origin of Britannia (Part 2)

1. The name of the Celtic "King" is Alwin I.
2. For whatever reason, readers are reminded once again that in 1 a.t.b. the Emperor of Rome was Augustus (Julius Caesar).
3. Although the story of Alwin I is written as fact in The Britannian Chronicles (or Chronicles of Britannia; the Ashford students are shown studying it in one of the earlier episodes), there is no definite proof whatsoever that such a person existed. The Britannian Chronicles was written around the time of the actual establishment of the Holy Empire of Britannia, and the story of Alwin I was concocted to show that the first Emperor was indeed descended from a "king", and therefore had the divine right to rule and so on and so forth.
4. The first Emperor of Britannia = Ricardo Van Britannia I. Britannia was created when he ascended to the throne after the Tudor line died out after moving to the Americas. He was a Duke before he became Emperor.

History Lesson #3: The Virgin Queen Elizabeth

1. Although Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, never married ("I have already joined myself in marriage to a husband, namely the kingdom of England."), she had a number of lovers. It is unknown who fathered her illegitimate son Henry IX, but the Earl of Lester, the Earl of Essex, and the Britannian noble Carl are the likeliest candidates.

History Lesson #4: Sakuradite and the Age of Geographical Discovery

- In Marco Polo's "Description of the World", he describes Japan as the "Land of Gold". However, by "gold" he was actually referring to "Sakuradite" (or the literal Japanese name "Sakura stone")
- Sakuradite was found near Stone Henge, and at that time it was known as "the Philosopher's Stone." Through the practice of alchemy the use of Sakuradite as an energy source was discovered, but further development was hindered by the rarity of it. As a result, Marco Polo's text caused a great deal of excitement and triggered the Age of Geographical Discovery. Put in a broader perspective, the discovery of the Britannian continent, formerly known as the American continent, may have been a result of this as well.

History Lesson #5: Washington's Rebellion

- In the 1770s a.t.b., Washington's rebellion in the American colony ended in failure. C.C. reveals that Benjamin Franklin was the cause of this.
- Benjamin Franklin went to France to ask for assistance from Louis XVI, and had he actually done so Louis XVI would have consented to help. However, on the way to France, he met a Duke from the Britannia family, who offered him the title of Earl and property in colonial America. Ben, preferring research over fighting, accepted. Consequently the Continental Army lost the battle in Yorktown and George Washington died there.

History Lesson #6: The Edinburgh Disgrace

1. After the French Revolution, Napoleon became Emperor and gained control of much of Europe. Having won control of the seas after the Battle of Trafalgar, he set shore on Britain and advanced upon London with a 120,000-strong army. The Queen on the throne, Elizabeth III, was forced to flee to Edinburgh; there she was captured by the pro-Napoleon militia and pressured to announce the abolishment of the monarchy. The year was 1807 a.t.b., and the incident is now known as "The Edinburgh Disgrace".
2. The person who saved her and sent her to the new continent (America) was Ricardo Van Britannia I, the man who later became the 1st Emperor of Britannia. However, all this would not have been possible without Sir Richard Hector, the Knight of One. For generations the Britannia Dukes (Ricardo's family) have selected from their subordinates elite Knights to form the Knight of Rounds, and the title of Knight of One is awarded only to the best of them. Ricardo's friend, subordinate and the strongest Knight of his time, Sir Richard would later be featured in a number of plays, novels and movies.

History Lesson #7: The Founding of Britannia

1. Elizabeth III and her followers established a capital on the east coast of the new continent.
2. Elizabeth III died without leaving any heirs; she was supposed to have chosen her successor from one of her blood relations, but on her dying bed she nominated her lover, Ricardo Van Britannia I instead. She is therefore famous for being "The Queen who loved throughout her stormy life."
3. Napoleon died on his way back to France after the Waterloo defeat; although it was never proven, it is rumoured that assassins poisoned his food as per Elizabeth III's will: her last words included the famous line "I do not forget slights to my honour."

History Lesson #8: The Arrival of the Black Ships

1. Members of the European nobility centered in France fled to Britannia as the democratic reform continued, and these aristocrats would later advocate the emancipation of slaves in the southern states. The revolt and the war that followed became what would be known as the North-South War.
2. At the same time, Britannia began to take an interest in other countries, especially those in the Pacific Ocean. In 1853, four of Britannia's "Black Ships" arrived in Japan; the people of Japan, having isolated themselves from the rest of the world, were shocked to discover the extent of their ignorance of the outside world.

History Lesson #9: The Occupation of Japan

1. What happened in the 1900s is a potential spoiler and has been skipped.
2. 2010 a.t.b.: Japan makes full use of the hostility between the Chinese Federation and Britannia adopts a neutral stance. By manipulating the distribution of Sakuradite, Japan creats a dangerous three-way standoff between the Chinese Federation, EU and Britannia, and in so doing enjoys great prosperity.
3. It had been considered taboo to lay a hand on Japan, because any attempt to claim it would quickly result in a free-for-all on Japanese land. However, Charles Di Britannia, the 98th Emperor, managed to capture Japan without triggering an all-out war. He sent the Knight of Rounds to the African and Indian war fronts and the flagship Great Britannia to the Indian Ocean, successfully drawing the attentions of both EU and the Chinese Federation away from the Pacific Ocean. The Japan invasion came as a bolt out of the blue; within 24 hours victory was certain. By the time EU and the Chinese Federation tried to dispatch their troops, it was already too late.

And A map of the world

Strangely, Australia isn't part of the Britanian Empire. I guess that since they still had America, there was no need to transport convicts here.

Well episode 2 made much clear and episode 3 helped clear up most of the rest, in the basics if not the details.

Though it saddens me to see that Pizza Hut's support for the rebellion may be waning. I saw a sign for the in episode 1 but nothing in episode 2 and 3. Or did I just miss them. A couple in the first season were of 'blink and you'll miss them' sort as well.

Is anyone else still watching this. Becuase Lulu was in fine form in episode 9 (and Nina's conversation with Milly was interesting). It's also made me wonder about Schneizel's ultimate goal and motivation.

The final scene was the absolute best though.

ORANGE-KUN! ORANGE-KUN!

Finally anyone want to take a guess as to how long Odysseus will last?

He was dead the moment Lulu called him the mediocre prince.

I loved the scene where he was holding Tanzai[spelling?] at gunpoint laughing maniacally. Orange-Kun being back is awesome.

Spoilers for S2: Am i the only one who wants to see Nina DIAF? Seriously, most annoying character ever, i wanted some to punch her in the face while she was yelling at Suzaku to use Frejia (what ever it was again). Too bad about Nunanally - if she really is dead, though she had Hax ninja with her so who knows. ;_; Guilford.

I'm finding it really tempting to order the American special edition boxset. Any chance we'll get the stuff from that when it comes down here?
