Hi everyone,

I have recently 'discovered' the world of Visual Kei (yeah, I know I'm a bit slow, I only got Broadband a few months ago!). I was wondering which bands other fans like?

My favs are Nightmare (they SO rock), LM.C (aka Lovely Mococochang), and Aikryu.

You are best for liking Aikaryu. Smile And yes, VK is best. Very Happy

My top 5:
1. D'espairsRay
2. Aikaryu
3. 12012
4. Sadie OR alice nine
5. Malice Mizer

Nightmare are okay, LMC I haven't heard much of though except for their ED to Red Garden.

I haven't heard any D'espairs Ray or Saidie yet, will investigate them next!
12012 and Alice Nine are cool.
Malice Mizer are ok, a bit too... I don't know... depressing for me! Very Happy

LM.C don't have too many songs out yet, just two mini albums and their new single 'Oh My Juliet'. 'Little Fat Man Boy' is my fav. of theirs so far.

If you like Dir en Grey, you'll like Sadie. Get 'The Suicide Machine' maxi-single. Smile

D'espairsRay are Industrial Goth/Metal, they are so awesome. First song you should try is 'Garnet', it's the best song eveeer.

Malice Mizer, yeah, they can be a bit scary, but they have a very original sound. Try out 'Beast of Blood' and you'll be in love.

But yes, try out D'espairsRay first!!!

I've seen the film clip for Beast of Blood! I do like Malice, but only in small doses! Very Happy

I used to like Nightmare, but now they bore me to tears. Especially their concert DVDs... what a horrible excuse for a crowd. I'd die if surrounded by such passive people at a "rock" concert.

D'espairs Ray is the only name listed I can say is consistantly awesome. Even more so live.

I haven't seen any of their DVDs yet, so I can't comment on that!
I love their music myself, though some of their older stuff is little more than just noise, but each to their own! Razz
Anima is their best album, IMHO.

Does Nightmare even count as VK? I mean, the group dresses like normal jrocker, except punk-goth-cowboy lead singer. Eh, I just call it all "jrock" nowadays. Too hard to distinguish the different genres for one such as I. In which case, I happily say Gazette consistently rocks my socks. Um... them and D'espairsRay and 12012 are the only jrock groups I follow, really. I just have random bits here-and-there of other people.

The album Merry did a few months back was kinda cool. I needed a few more points to get a discount on my Tower Records (or was it HMV?) card so I picked it up off a display, and I got some trading cards to boot. Woot!

Take a look at their guitarist Hitsugi (on the left)! Not the most extreme example, but it is one of their more recent pics.

He's always looked like a fruitloop. Razz The singer only appears to be an evil hillbilly in concerts I guess... but yeah, the rest of them look exactly the same as every other non-salaryman walking around somewhere like Shibuya. Them and their hideously peter-pan-pointy shoes. Neutral

Hitsugi has always been the most extreme, with painted face and freaky contact lenses! They have toned down their image somewhat though, which is a bit of a shame, but oh well...

It seems to be the way with a lot of the VK bands. They start out really extreme and tone it down once they get popular.

Maybe they are saving the weirdness for their Sendai Kamatsu stuff instead!

Actually Nightmare and Dir en Grey are the only two bands I've seen tone their image down. Most others stay with it, as it's a reason a lot of people like VK bands - their look.

Thats good, it would be a shame if they all did it!

I keep meaning to ask you, where is your avatar from? It looks vaguely familiar, but I just can't place it.

Yeah, I was thinking it could go in my topic of 'weirdest film clips', though Dir en Grey still win hands down for that!

Yeah, I could put Exosist at Number 2 though. It just has heaps of layers of meaning, you have to watch it heaps of times to know wtf is going on.

Now go listen to Garnet - D'espairsRay!

I've just heard some Pierrot today! I wanted to hear what Aiji did before he and Maya started LM.C. I like what I have heard so far.

Ok Tony, you were right! D'espairs Ray ARE awesome. I am listening to their Coll:set album right now. Garnet definately rocks!

Who else do you recommend?

ugh oshare kei...

If you want it, an cafe is probably the most popular oshare kei band. But I can't stand them and their stupid poppy crap that they make. Razz

Now, a good oshare kei band is Ayabie. The best one, by far. Razz

baroque and kannivalism are two excellent oshare-kei bands.

Although you could argue that they are the same band...

I really like Baroque/ Kannivalism. I didn't realise they were classed as Oshare Kei!

I have heard a few An Cafe songs, some are ok, a bit too sugary and sweet though!

Will see if I can find some Ayabie!

Dir en Grey are great! I've been playing Kisou all day today.

I thought I'd recommend Buck-tick, their album "13 kai wa gekkou" is awesome. Not so visual these days, but they are one of the originals Smile
