{Weeps tears of joy!}

At last! Sadly this means were probably only going to get five episodes for Disappearance and no other stories for this season. And it's going to be at least three weeks before we get to it, probably four depending on exactly where they put The Adventures of Asahina Mikuru.

I'd really, really like to know what bright spark came up with the 8 episodes of Endless Eight so I can hunt them down and inflict a little GBH. The rumour mill has been singularly unhelpful though either since there's a tie between the two most popular (mutually contradictory) target for placing the blame.

Finally. After the fourth episode I decided to ignore it until the resolution. Also, picked it like a dirty nose. Of course it would be that.

Holy Smeg! The next episode is Sigh!

Looks like we're not going to get Disappearance at all this season.

Of course there will be no Disappearance!

Personally I don't think all 8 episodes of Endless 8 will count. Those of you who are guessing this and that about what arcs and how long each go for have so far been all wrong. It's possible all remaining episodes from this broadcast schedual will be new.

It's a nice idea but it's a pipe dream, doomed by realities.

1) Japanese television is sold in blocks of a certain number of episodes (with exceptions like Naruo, Bleach and Doraemon. I also swear that Toei has just brought out the 7-8am Sat morning slot indefinitely but I digress) and this information is easy enough to get a hold of so it's no secret.

2) This run of Haruhi is scheduled to run 28 weeks

3) It's both the 1st season mixed in with new episodes in chronological order

4) There are 4 episodes of the 1st season yet to screen. 'The Adventures of Asahina Mikuru,' 'Live a Live,' 'Day of Sagittarius' and 'Someday in the Rain'

5) 14 episodes of Season 1 + Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody + {shudder} 8 episodes of Endless Eight + 3 episodes of The Sigh of Suzumiya Haruhi (so far) = 26, meaning 2 more new episodes this season and Sigh isn't over.

End result at best we've got one new, stand alone episode coming this season and even then it's four weeks off (at least one more episode of Sigh this week then, Adventures of Asahina Mikuru, Live a Live and DoS)

Good explaination Knight of L-sama!
Do you know or can we find out how Haruhi rated in Japan during the Endless Eight episodes?

ANN does a ratings round up, but it's mostly the top performers. They do list their sources though so it's probably best to hunt them down.

I had a look for Japanese Animation TV Rankings and ended up as you'd expect on a Japanese language site.
It would be interesting to see the Japanese weekly ratings/rankings for the 2009 Haruhi TV schedule. I'd like to see what the repeat episodes returned but I'm particularly interested in the comparative performance of the Endless Eight episodes. It has to go down as one of the most inept decisions in TV production history.
Having said that, the "Sigh" episodes have re-established the series' credentials in my view.

Well thus ends a another season of Haruhi. It will screen for four more week but that's the last four (chronological order) episodes of Season 1.

This season had it's ups (Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody a personal fave) its down (Endless Eight going 4 to 5 episodes longer than necessary). Interestingly Sigh V ended with with a jump back to the end of Melancholy VI with Kyon telling Haruhi the truth about the rest of the club.

I'm glad the novel of Sigh is coming out next month because I suspect that it might clarify a few things from the anime. For one I suspect that the movie plot was leaking into real life in more than just talking cats and special effects.

i was reading the comments (skimming through, reading people argue about what ep goes where, etc, etc, etc) & was wondering if their are any plans for the dub & MM to pick it up?

(i think this may be something for Sly to elaborate on)

Interesting video from Bandai has a ppeared on youtube which seems to point to an english dub being done for season 2....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRfywEX2LDQ

As I'm sure you can hear the opening song "Super Driver" has been dubbed(although it's Christina Vee and not Wendy Lee...) and although it's just a new ASOS brigade episode they seem to discuss the english dub so hopefully that bodes well fore that. Hopefully they can get the original cast back as it was a very nicely done dub.

I wouldn't bet on it; the era of LEs seems to have largely passed.

To correct myself, the English version of Super Driver is not an official one. Rather it's a fandub done by Cristina Vee herself and is available on youtube. I still think the whole situation points strongly to an english dub though.

Don't think so. Just this form of release, from what the Right Stuf listing says.

Right Stuf wrote:
This edition includes a bonus CD with the opening and ending song tracks (Super Driver & Tomare)!

If Bandai repackages the series at some point, dropping all the extras, then the CD wouldn't be included.

Scroll down to the 2009 version.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_episodes

So short answer is no. We won't be doing any sort of inserts. There were no inserts in the US release either. Which btw is in a slimpack style case as well Razz

On the R1 they only mentioned in the blurb on the back that these episodes are meant to be spliced into season 1's.

Watch the 1, 3 and 8. Maybe 7 if you're feeling masochistic.

Well, I watched all of them. Go ahead, tell me I have too much time on my hands... Wink

It wasn't too bad though, it was interesting to see the few little bits they threw in. Though I was completely thrown by how they ended it; considering there were so many shots of planes, clouds, cicada's and beach balls flying in slow-mo and the toy plane in the movie I was expecting something to do with flight.

All in all, I liked it; but I really hope a combined box set gets released or something, because it definitely would be nice to watch them all through in consecutive discs. Maybe when the movie is released?

Also, btw, did anyone who bought it notice the jacket folder in the disc? It has a large, medium and small .avi file containing what looks to be what would have been on each disc's dvd case if they weren't released in a slim pack. What's up with that?

Well the closest you'll probably ever get is the Japanese BD set coming later this month that's apparently got both the sub and the dub included... Plus the first season was only animated in SD.

Only 3 weeks away... Although my wallet will hate me.
