On my copy of Beck V3 which I just got there is a problem with the 3rd episode on the disc, Episode 13 - Ciel Bleu. In the middle of the episode where part A ends and part B begins it freezes for a moment, if I hit pause it eventually skips ahead and I only miss a few minutes and the rest of the epidode continues as normal, all the other eps work fine. I tried playing it on my pc aswell when it gets to the problem part it freezes and powerdvd no longer responds so I have to end the program.

Age of DVD Player: Around 1 year don't remember exactly but definately less than 18 months

My copy did that when I watched it last night.

I had the exact same problem with my copy, too - I could skip to the credits and rewind to a certain point, but I don't like faulty discs in my collection Razz I've actually just put it in the mail back to the Sales team to organise a replacement, but I wonder if it might be a problem with the batch?

Make/Model of DVD Player: Sony DVP-NC615 and ASUS DVD-RW (model unknown)
Age of DVD Player: Sony, approx 4 years. DVD-RW 1 year.
Have you had problems with other DVDs in the player: No.

Glad to see that Smile If I want to exchange it I know I have to mail it to the orders department with a note saying what's wrong with it and my dvd player model etc but is there anything else I should put with it like a photocopy of the invoice or anything like that?

I suspect there is a problem at the layer change - some players seem to get past it but some don't.

I have posted an error with Death Note Movie and Air Gear. I have got the Death Note Anime and Naruto. I havent had a chance to watch these yet but will submit status once found.

Confirming Naruto Vol 10, Death Note Anime Vol 1, Both Death Note Movies and Air Gear Vol 4. All happening at the layer change. Upon inspection my Pioneer player laser pick up skates back and forth and refuses to play. My apple powerbook with a panasonic drive skates back and forth about 4 or 5 times and continues to play and a cheap and nasty $40 player seems to have no trouble although now and again it staggers after the layer change.

Would be interested to see if any one else with pioneer recorders and/or pioneer stand alone player only units have this trouble.

My friend got a copy from JB's a few days ago, I borowed it and it works perfectly, there were no problems at all so I think I'll just send it back for a replacement. Since I wasn't the only one with a problem maybe it was a problem with a particular batch like Melkior said.

I'm having the same problem with my copy. I've tried it in both my PC (LG DVD burner with PowerDVD) and my PS2. On my PC it locks up PowerDVD and on my PS2 it skips ahead a minute or so.
I purchased the DVD from JB HiFi on Lonsdale street, 1/3/2007.

Be careful if you have a DVD recorder - If you hear the player's laser skating back and forward this can wreck your player/recorder.

My recorder no longer records - I burnt a disc not long before I got the dvds with the problems and tonight I went to burn something and nothing - I have 51 hours of write time on the drive in the service mode - So I suspect the driving forward and back of the laser on these discs has put it out.

Does anyone else have a pioneer dvr 530h? and have any problems?

MAdman is pathetic, how long till u post an answer?

Give it time - I havent picked up this months releases, I need to get a new dvd recorder.

They are using a different company to replicate discs. No suspect longer AAV Regency - Not sure on this as it is no longer printed on the disc.
They maybe having trouble replicating the fault as not all dvd players are giving the fault.
I suspect many people with writer type drives are having problems and the cheap players dont as the laser accuracy needs to be very accurate in writers.

At least you dont have a $700.00 dvd recorder that is now rooted.

Sounds like a layer change error, what other machines have you tried this disc on.

I would trial the disc through 3-4 units before saying there is a fault with it..

not through the same name brand either..

A pc dvdrom and ps2 isn't the best playback source to use trying to diagnose a fault with a dvd disc as the lasers in these 2 devices can pick up minor disc faults...

Not that I suggest you do this, though you could try burning a copy of this disc in question to see if you can replicate the fault through playback of the copied disc should tell you if the disc actually faulty or not!!

In the past I've tried the above method and I didn't have a problem with the copied disc playback..

Before someone ask's "No i'm not a pirate I have had problems with MM disc's in the past with playback issues on various machines."

While you can play dvd's on your consoles I wouldn't recommend it as they all have issues with dvd movie/anime disc playback in 1 form or another, in most cases the main route of the problem is when companies start playing around with encryption tools to stop piracy, (which they have a right to do) because tool may or may not conform to a standard, they can make a dvd disc unplayable at the user end...

As the encryption methods have gotten better you will find every player in market will get playback issues in 1 form or another when you play a disc..

At the moment a 75/25 rule is in affect, 75% of dvd disc will work on all dvd players while the other 25% you will have teething troubles to play them, regardless of the movie company that reproduces it...

I agree with encryption - But I have only had problems with madman discs - I have over 2000 DVD's from all different regions and only madman discs give trouble.I am using a DVR 530H Pioneer DVD HDD recorder - well was using - see my posts above.

I have a DVL 909 Pioneer LD/DVD player and Disney discs at the main menu were the only discs I ever had a problem with but now my recorder is rooted I am not even game to try madman discs in this player.

I have never had a software problem -menus etc data on the disc) with madman only physical disc faults mainly at the layer change. They were using AAV regency to replicate but now its unknown. When there was a problem it generally was resolved in a reasonable amount of time (when the next batch became available/replicated)

I have stopped purchasing madman dvds until the problem gets updated or a list of problem dvds is posted. A new pioneer dvd recorder is around $650.00 and $150.00 or so for a 500Gb or so HDD. And with the AUD near parity I am purchasing US DVD's again.

I got the Beck collection at Brisbane's Animania on Saturday and I'm having this problem with DVD 3. I've tried it on the 4 DVD players that I have. Since I didn't get it from the Madman site am I still able to send it back to get it replaced?

Not to bump an extremely old thread but has this been fixed? I have attempted to get a fixed copy 2 times through the a Madman support staff member (who has been very helpful), and both still contained the error. Is there a Production or Technical staff member that can answer this for me? Thanks.

I bought the whole series about a month ago... I bought the V1 and collectors box and then the rest of the individual volumes.

I watched Volume 3 yesterday and my disc has the same fault as everyone else in thread.

Was it every copy of the disc that had this problem or did it get fixed when they released the fatpacks?

I am about to send an email off to Madman asking what i am supposed to do with this faulty disc and if they can supply me with a non faulty disc.

I asked Will to chase up mine but am waiting to hear back from him as he is also waiting for their MM rep to return from leave. Good to know that the issue has been fixed and hopefully will get a copy soon so I can watch it.

I might be sending an email Madman's way soon...

Took me almost 2 years worth of emailing and a lot of patience and time to get a fix, with about 5 different DVD's in the process, here's my timeline for those interested (I have saved the emails etc):

1. April 2008: Bought the original - broken
2. April 2008: Swapped the original for a different copy from EZYDVD - broken
3. April 2008: Original emails sent to Madman - told it was a layer break
4. March 2009: Forgot about it until an issue occurred with Death Note 7. Emailed them again.
5. April 2009: Received a so called "fixed" copy from Madman - broken
6. February 2010: No further help until now. Received another requested copy of Beck V3 along with another fixed DVD. - Still broken
7. February 2010: Received an email from another support member. Sent another DVD - Fixed

You will notice if you end up with a fixed copy as on the disc itself there will be a number/letter combo and an asterisk next to it, for example 'MMA543*'. The asterisk is what represents a fix, the number/letter combo represents the product code.

The team was very helpful in resolving it for me, and most likely you all too. Request the fatpack DVD if you go ahead with this. That is the copy I ended up with. But also be prepared to send off your broken copy as proof of purchase, should only cost you $2.00postage, small price to pay for an unimpaired collection. Cool

In my dealings when I've bought it directly from Madman they've always just sent me a new disc... But I guess I could have just been lucky.

They'd have your purchase on record.

I think my fatpack disk is affected, it doesn't have the asterisk after the product code, and when I tried it out on the computer the other night, it glitched.

With stuff you have purchased from the MM online shop there should be no need to send it back as The Tragic Man said, they have your purchase on record. I've had discs sent to me on one or two occassions without sending in the faulty ones that I've bought from Shin Tokyo but those have been titles where the issue has taken over a year to resolve.

If it's a known glitch with a whole batch of discs and you have purchased it online from somewhere like Shin Tokyo then a photo of the disc attatched to your email to the order department about it as proof that you own it should be sufficient imo, especially if they are just sending out a replacement dvd rather than a case and everything.

There used to be a website that listed all the Madman titles that had faults and had comments about whether fixes had been done and when but I can't seem to find it anymore. Does anyone recall what it was?

For people who have been buying a lot of MM titles over a relatively short period of time, do you think it would be worth starting a thread in this section with a list of known issues and as people post other titles then the first post could be edited so you can see all the information easily without having to search through heaps of threads?
This way those of us who have huge backlogs of MM anime can sort out any problems asap without having to wait until the time when you finally get around to watch something, find a technical fault or missing booklets due to packing errors (such as the Eva BD) and then there is a chance that it is discontinued or not available anymore? (especially booklets that sometimes come with the individuals, as they are transitioned to new packaging they cease to exist) Wondering what other people think of this idea?

That site you're talking about use to be in the sig of the user "mib". Unfortunatly it's become hard to find, as his sig has disappeared. Try your luck googling.

How did you get it - did you contact Shin Tokyo or go directly through MM and did you have to pay to send the flawed copy in?

I just sent an email straight to orders@madman saying what was wrong with it and asked if it was possible to get a replacemtn disc.
Then I got a reply on Tuesday asking for my delivery address, so i replied with that it arrived last night.
I didnt have to send my faulty copy in or anything like that. They just straight up sent me a replacement disc.
There was virtually no effort/hassel involved. Very Happy
