Stolen from Kotaku article.

Is it just me, or is it ridiculous that if you cover up the movie name and Vega's mask, it's virtually impossible to guess what it's supposed to be? There is absolutely no "oh awesome it's Street Fighter!" appeal to it at all. Confused

I noticed that she doesn't have the buns in her hair. It's not Chun Li with out them. This is probably gonna turn out like the Van Damme movie IMO.

...you'd only need to take the title away before most people would draw blanks :/

I dont blame van damme for not reprising his role as gule for this movie after the original street fighter movie flop big time. I think chun li movie will have no legs it will flop too but will watch it for a laugh. Allways love playing chun li for street fighter game.

If you ask me, you can't have a Street Fighter movie with out Ryu or Ken. Why not make a decent movie, like one based on SF4. I'd like to see something like that. Something where we can finally see Ryu fight Akuma. Perhaps even more about Akuma killing Gouken. They haven't really done that in any movies, except for Alpha Generations, but you didn't really see anything.

Bland, boring, uninspiring poster. One of the worst film posters in recent times.

The Van Damme version (which I must confess to liking) will look like an Oscar winner compared to the new film.

lol Lana Lang as Chun Li

Has Street Fighter even had enough widespread popularity since 1998 to even justify this movie?

You know what would be good? A special appearance by Daigo. How cool would that be?

lol, that would be awesome Very Happy

I've only just stumbled into this thread, and have two comments:

1: Tallis - You are a super-champ Very Happy

2: I thought that movie poster Waffle-man posted was a joke poster, not official.

Thankfully there will be a new SF anime bundled with SF4 that looks nothing like the silly art direction that plagued/murdered the Alpha OVAs, so I'll be looking forward to that instead Razz

I think there should be an alternative language track to this new Chun-Li movie, where they have stuff that doesn't fit the movie, like Silverchair music, Ken wearing a purple shirt tucked into his jeans and lots of unnecessary swearing. Including Guile's best line ever about ripping hearts out of chesticles. Or maybe Deejay can talk about the character of Shadowlaw after delivering a crazy roundhouse to a bogan. That would be sweet.

That's an awesome dub.

Hahaha.

"Those are some bad ass mother f**ckers!"

If Ken was in it, I'd like to see him accompanied by the Ken Song. That has to be one of the best SF remixes I've ever heard. If it's about Chun Li, the movie should start by her unleashing a super on Ken, who parries all of it. Now that's an intro!

And Daigo would be a spectator in the crowd and comment "Hmm, I taught him well". And then some Silverchair would play. Because it doesn't fit, but is "cool".

Oh, dear. Six reviews in and already rotten.
Already, there a few who claim the Jean Claude Van Damme movie is superior. That says it all.

As terrible as it was, the old movie was watchable because of Raul Julia's epic scenery chewing.

Honestly, I'm surprised anyone had high hopes for this movie. It's based on a video game, after all.

And your saying this after some of the other decent video game to movie adaptations?
(Like DoA or Mortal Kombat)

There is no such thing as a "Decent" video game to movie translation. The titles you mention aren't decent.

As much as I enjoyed DoA, I can appreciate that it doesn't stand up to critical analysis, and the MK movies were just plain awful.

If you ask alot of people Mortal Kombat was considered to be better done then DoA despite being directed by the same guy.
Mortal Kombat Annihilation was a different thing altogether, different pace, lamer costumes and actors , Shao Kahn was just some bald guy in a suit.
There are rumors of a rebooted Mortal Kombat movie being worked on.

The original though it's not perfect but it's one of the better ones out there.
Of course you would put DoA above it, I hold MK above it.
They didn't get Ayane right when they casted.

And most video game movies have a lack of plot since, they have established history, but some of them get re-written Hollywood style.

So expecting a good one may take a while.

Even though Paul W.S. Anderson isn't much chop when it comes to these types of movies, he is the lesser of two evils when put next to Uwe Boll.

I am, compared to some of the others Uwe Boll has done, like Tallis said.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation was alright. Had a good soundtrack. Didn't like DOA, or the first MK.
