In yet another addition to the Hollywood remake list, Death Note has now been green lit for a Hollywood remake by Vertigo Entertainment. You may remember this company for remaking Japanese horror classics such as The Grudge, Dark Water, The Departed (Infernal Affairs), The Eye and recently Shutter.

It has been tipped that The Parlapanides Brothers currently working on a remake of the classic Johnny Depp TV series 21 Jump Street will be writing the screenplay for Death Note.

With two Japanese films already released plus a spinoff film of L, Death Note is now really truly coming to life. Just don't start writing people's names in a notebook and proclaiming that you're Kira.

The movies, anime and manga are all currently available from Madman.

I've seen Infernal Affairs, It was a Hong Kong film, IIRC.

Hopefully Hollywood don't mess Death Note up like every other Japanese movie they've done. It would bode badly for the planned Battle Royale remake (still my fave movie).

On the subject, I heard a rumour recently of a Death Note spin off fgeaturing Matsuda. Anyone know the truth to this?

The fact that they are planning on remaking Battle Royale at all does not bode well, I seriously doubt that lightning will strike twice in this case.
Hell even the proper sequel was not a patch on the original.

Does 'The Condemned' count as a remake of Battle Royale? It's story is near enough to be IMO.

Any updates on the movie. Like when it comes out and who are the actors? Or is it still to early to know that?

An american Death Note movie would totaly suck!!!!!

I would be so damn angry if they casted someone like Zack Efron or Jessie Mccartney to be in it, its bad enough that jessie mccartney was chosen for the dub voice of Roxas in KHII, but thats another subject...

All live action american anime adaptions suck, except for speed racer that was good.

It might be all right, looking forward to it anyway. I liked the American versions of the Grudge and the Ring. Wonder how long till its finished? I hope they choose good actors, lol..

I don't know about this, I enjoyed both the Japanese movies and the anime but a hollywood one? If they do make one do you think they'll change anything for the non-anime watching culture?

Right now hollywood ran out of ideas and thought "why not get some anime series and remake them into movies" by doing this they will butcher our fave series and make us fans very upset and into a up roar. They should leave anime alone and try to make movies on their own.
