...hmmm
looks like i may have been wrong when i said it was unlikely that the new series would focus on the brother's training
unless by "journey begins" it meant a new journey
japanese never seems to translate the context pedantically enough for us english speaking folk lol

Doesn't look like a continuation from the movie. (at least I hope not) C'mon...manga storyline!

The new teaser video has made it fairly clear that it will be very much based off the manga story. The character designs looks alot closer to the manga style (notice the larger chins on the characters).

We'll all have to wait till Friday for more info though of course Smile

I was so happy when I first heard about the new series! Sure, I wouldn't want them to ruin the other series but I have faith in BONES. But won't the first few episodes be very similar to the first anime episodes since they're both based off the manga?????

Yeah I noticed that Roy's eyes looked quite more manga-like. C'mon Friday!!!

I actually noticed more on Ed's face. It seemed similar to his face in recent manga chapters, though I might just be imagining it.

If it is following the manga, which it apparently is. It will be much better than the original anime. Of course that is just my opinion.

Yeah I along with everyone else will be so disappointed if it doesn't live up to the original anime. But if it follows the manga, then I'm sure it will be great!

Just watched the trailer and while I like how they have drawn Ed, I'm not sure about the new Roy Mustang. Neutral

I'm really happy about this Very Happy (It's great how it's going to follow the manga =D) but I'm worried at the same time...I'm hoping they keep the Seiyuus from the first series. I can't imagine anyone else as Ed and Al, other than Paku Romi and Kugimiya Rie.

Ed and Al look great in the trailer but i agree about Roy too...he looks kinda odd XD

is there a difference in how Hughes was portraid in the manga and original anime series? from what i've heard he became popular because of how the anime portraid him, if so will that mean he won't be as popular or something if the new anime is the manga? when Hughes died in the anime it made me cry, and it's very hard to make me cry, twas my fave character Smile Crying or Very sad

hopefully the English cast comes back as well, can't stand the Japanese version what with Al sounding like a girl, Ed sounding like Hitsugaya, Scar sounding like Byakuya and Barry sounding like Renji Laughing (yes i'm aware they did FMA before Bleach Razz )

i always thought ed looked, sounded and acted older than the age the anime told us he was (i would have guessed around 17 and around 14 for al).
and the characters voices and ed's appearence would have changed throughout the series as well, given the ages of the brothers.
maybe im just being too critical...
but still, looking forward to seeing the revised interpretations of the characters
cant wait

There's new scans from the latest GanGan magazine, and it's looking more definitely manga-based - well, the character designs are anyway.

Can't wait until April! ^_^

Out of that list, here's the ones who played the same characters in the original FMA series:
Romi Paku as Edward Elric
Rie Kugimiya as Alphonse Elric
Kenji Utsumi as Alex Louis Armstrong (I'd be very sad if someone else played Alex Razz)
Keiji Fujiwara as Maes Hughes
Hidekatsu Shibata as King Bradley

There's a few more who were in the original FMA series, but they played different characters. On a wacky side note, we've got Kikuko Inoue as Lust? THAT Kikuko Inoue? The one who always plays housewife type characters? WTF casting staff? I mean, she's a talented actress, sure, but I don't think her warm, motherly tones really suit the evil seductress Lust.

I'm so glad that there are some of the seiyuu from the 1st series ^0^ especially Paku-san! (^w^). About the new additions, i guess all we can do is wait and see how they do...><

I wonder, do you think they'll start from the beginning or pick up from where the original series started to deviate? personally i'd like them to start from scratch seeing as they did do a fair bit of deviating even during the first half but some of the scenes they showed in the trailers, like Mustang blowing up a side street is from after the original deviated

also I hope they keep the English staff, can't imagine anyone else doing them Razz

Some of the secondary characters probably wouldn't matter that much but I do hope they keep the VAs for the main characters. Especially Ed and Roy.

So I went to the New York Comic Con today and talked to a Funimation rep. This is what I was able to discover from him about the upcoming season of FMA.

1) He referred to it as "Season 3" (not sure if that's significant or not)
2) Funimation began talks to acquire rights as soon as the series was announced
3) They are trying to get ALL of the english VA's back with the possible exception of Aaron Dismuke because "his voice has kinda dropped a little bit"
4) DVDs should hit shelves about 9 months after the rights are acquired
5) Funimation has no more information than us about what the plot/storyline is.

That's literally all he knew (or was allowed to tell me).

I hope that helps ^_^

I did wonder if that would be a factor for Al's VA.

I could probably live without him, Al's voice acting was probably my least favorite, something I hope is that they don't translate everything as 'brother' >.< I know that's the literal translation but come on! it's so annoying!

the first point isn't encouraging as it implies that they won't start from the beginning, also lol @ point 5, they might not know but most of us do Wink

maybe they're counting the movie as a season all of its own...then again...that doesn't make sense as far as the manga goes...

I believe there was a divide in the series over in America that split it into two seasons. The first season ended at episode 26 or 27, and the rest was the second season. So by their standards, this would be the third season, but it seems a bit stupid to call it that.
