Sweet. Utawarerumono dropped in price I've wanting to get it for ages. Will this take time to trickle through to retailers or is it immediate?

Probably not going to be doing much grocery shopping either eh?

EDIT:
InuYahsa down to $70!!

...and I was hoping that the fatpack of Samurai 7 would look like the old box. Alas it does not. While it appears to be a nice cover, the box looked better, more...sophisticated.

So this was that annoucement I take it and the price markdown is to get rid of old boxsets or is the pics on the site not updated to the fatpack cover art pics yet?

I'm glad they're seeing reductions... but I thought they were already the prices of those sets, and had been for a long, long time?

several of the titles are confirmed fatpacks, and many were only ever fatpacks. So no, I do not think this is BoxSets only sort of deal. Its simply permanent markdowns on an awful lot of collections.

As this is permanent markdowns, I am contemplating being sensible, and not getting my legs broken, and holding off buying until I recover from October. I feel kinda dirty thinking that way so I may change my mind, but with the state of my Credit card, and my bank balance, I have to consider it.

I will absolutely be spending up big... it just might not be next pay.
in before "who are you and what have you done with HeDanny" hah!

Wish I knew about this during October, would haved saved me from the financial mess I am in now!
However, it means I will be able to get the ones I missed out on at a more sensible pace. It's not like I am short of anime to watch at the moment!
Well done Madman.

To answer my own question: yes it will take time. To my surprise jb actually had utawarerumono today so I bought it anyway and ripped myself off $15. And that makes 800.

I ordered Final Fantasy: Unlimited through a store to be told by the store owner that they were told that the price was only for the October sale. Apparently someone from MM told them this as well.

I'd be surprised if there weren't any communication breakdowns actually. Still I don't intend to buy for a while, since I've got no cash anyway. Need to go to work again soon I guess.

Hooray! I missed most of the October sale so I was a bit sad but now I'm happy again. And that list is huge...over 150 items!
Thank you Madman, this is the best (slightly early) birthday present ever!

The store was ordering direct from MM and somebody on your end said that these prices were only for the October sale. It's not a huge drama but I'm losing out on $20+ because of this.

Please keep in mind that all of our prices are recommended retail prices, a store does not have to follow this pricing in fact fixed pricing is illegal in this country... all stores will be getting a new catalogue in a few weeks but if the are to order direct today they will receive the new prices.

I understand how the pricing in stores works. I was informing you that somebody on your end is not aware of the permanent pricing of these titles.

Is this an early implentation of something that was already planned? I have heard that retailers were expecting markdowns in May of 2009.

I got one of the JB branches to transfer My Hime to my local JB store. When I asked them how much it was, they said $95. It should arrive at my local JB by tomorrow but what if they try to charge me $95? They HAVE to lower it to the new price right?

NOPE. Please keep in mind, RECOMMENDED retail price. Stores can charge whatever they want to.

A good "recommendation" is to tell them you will buy it elsewhere at the RRP. JB are usually good at being close or even under the RRP so maybe they haven't got the new prices yet.

I won't buy from the Sanity near my place, they sell at 150% to 200% what MM set as the RRP.

EDIT:
Slykura wrote:

Can stores mark titles as RRP and have a higher price than what MM have recommended?

I called Sanity today and asked if they sell titles at what the RRP is, firstly was told yes, then when I asked about a particular title was given a price of $20 more. Staff member then told me that Sanity pay the full RRP for titles from Madman/AV Channel and have to mark them up to make a profit. This doesn't sound right to me, I realise they can charge what they like for it but this doesn't sound like accurate information and personally I don't think they should have titles with stickers stating "RRP $120" when the RRP is actually under $100.
