I think i saw some on gumtree, a couple of people were selling off a few of their collections and that was in there.

just out of curiosity. Are box-sets that are not produced anymore gain value as the years go by? (and don't pop up for sale much?)

Ultimately it depends on the series itself and the popularity of said show but they can.

I haven't looked too much into it but they really won't go too much more than retail value if said box was released as a full collection, it's a different story if a series had a Vol + Box release but no full collection release but honestly I think they wouldn't get too much higher than $100-$120 on most occasions but this depends entirely on the series and how many people are after it.

As far as eBay goes, it's always a mixed bag in that area.

That's true. I see quite a few R1 boxsets that are worth a good bit of money. The last couple of Maison Ikkoku boxsets are selling up to $500 and that's just for 3 dvd's. Shocked

It just depends on how rare the boxsets are and the amount of interest in said boxsets.

most of the old box sets I see on ebay seem to end up selling for less than the original RRP. probably not a great investment, if thats what youre thinking lol

A few years ago when Madman announced they were stopping box sets the ebay market went crazy. I remember seeing Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and Trigun go for over $200...

oh really Sad, have they retracted that statement recently, because there has been a couple of box-sets this year, not much though.
Were they not making much money on them or something?

oh do you mean that they will no longer be selling series as a complete box set, but a slim-pack?
i wish they would do the V1 with limited collectors box more.

Retail pressure mostly was the eventual factor.

Boxes do take up valuable shelf space in the end, with one box u csn get 3-6dvd volumes/sets, retailers prefer the latter sadly

They may take up shelf space, but at least they're easier to find than slimpacks and fatpacks. It's why I'm now importing from the US almost entirely with only a couple of exceptions.

The anime section at JB-Hifi continues to get smaller and smaller due to the thinpacks.

Someones selling Gurren Lagann boxset on ebay at the moment,
But there selling Eureka Seven and xxxHolic & Death Note along with it.
Maybe ask for them to sell it separately.. Just type in ebay.com.au
anime boxsets.

I also saw the box sets and think it's really weird they have put them all together. I'm sure they could make more money selling them apart in bids.

I really don't like the 2 part split , i know it's on
eBay for $35 but I'd prefer it all to be in one boxset.

EDIT: Same with the soul eater 2 part slip,
Hoping madman will release it in complete form.

i would prefer a full boxset as well , how bout the currnt one with the film and book ( FMA) were a few in JB not long ago , as for soul eater i simply imported the blu ray sets ( they are region free unless you brought a first pressing)

They realed it again late last year or early sometime this year. So there could still be some stock in JB Hifi's. Your best bet it the bigger shopping centre ones or the ones in your main city CBD.
