I'd like to put together a list of tunes used in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, having bought the blu-ray box set with concerts and not being one capable of writing or reading Japanese.

Initially borrowing from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haruhi_suzumiya#Music

and also cdjapan.co.jp with help from Google Translate.

Episode 0 opening:

"The Mikuru Legend of Love" 恋のミクル伝説 "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu"

Episode 1 and rest of first series opening:

"It's an Adventure, Right? Right?" 冒険でしょでしょ? "Bōken Desho Desho?"

Trumpet-based instrumental used when Kyon is introducing episodes:

"Splendour in the landscape every day more of the same old violent" いつもの風景〜激烈で華麗なる日々/ 東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団 ITSUMO NO FUUKEI-GEKIRETSU DE KAREINARU HIBI

Main ending theme (of the dance fame):

"Sunny Sunny Happiness" ハレ晴レユカイ "Hare Hare Yukai"

Second Series opening theme:

"Super Driver"

Second Series closing theme:

"Stop!" 止マレ! "Tomare!"

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 2:

When Mikuru is brought to the clubroom for the first time:

"Invitation to the tragic heroine" 悲劇のヒロイン〜非日常への誘い〜ビーチバカンス HIGEKI NO HEROINE

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 6:

Symphony No. 8 in Eb Major, "Symphony of a thousand" by Mahler (who was a patient of Freud Shocked)

"The Day of Sagittarius"

Symphony No. 4 in F Minor by Tchaikovsky
Symphony No. 7 in C Major "Leningrad" by Shostakovich
Daphnis et Chloé by Ravel

"Live Alive"

"God Knows..."
"Lost My Music"

I'd like to expand this to include the musical themes that are included throughout the series.

Does Yuki Nagato's song:

"Snow, Silence, at the windowsill" 雪、無音、窓辺にて。" MUON.MADOBE NITE.

actually get sung at all in the series, or is it just used as an instrumental?

Neither.
"Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite." is Yuki Nagato's season 1 character song. Most of the time character songs are not used in the series.
