Am I the only one who hates that Halloween is becomming more popular in Australia and that it seems that in a generation it'll be a really popoular holiday?

In America it's already an extremely popular holiday.

I agree with Wolfw00d, I've got nothing against Halloween! Just wish I had something planned this year Razz

Well, I don't really see the problem with it. We're not the only country doing it, and it's not like it's a part of America's history. It's just there cause they stole it from elsewhere and made it about kids and lackers.

Pretty much everyone I know interested in Halloween is over 18 and see's it as a chance for a social gathering. Only with more costumes.

I'M TOO DUMB TO FIND OTHER WORDS TO USE SO I USE THE F WORD moe. It's Halloween. It's the time for interesting frightening costumes to honour the weakening of the barrier between the living and the underworld.

Viva la freaks!

better off eating people around swimsuit season when their all health nuts to fit back into last years bikini or speedo

well I was thinking of dressing as a cat demon and coming aroung to your place where if A-Sprits wouldn’t minded dressing as a dominatrix we could go out and gram Tallis force him into a nappy and baby bib with a cut picture of Donald Duck then drag him around town by a leash. A-sprits will follow behind in case Tallis requires motivation, tries to walk upright, stopes crying or generally i just feel like rasing my hand to give A-Spritza the signal to brutalise him...

I'd love to experience Halloween in American since here; its an excuse for pesky kids in bad costumes; to come around my house and steal my candy.
But, I'm having a big, horror movie fest with lollies and spider drinks!

I celebrate Halloween every year. Last year I took my sister to see WICKED and we went decked out as Witches... fluro striped stockings, hats and all!

This year we're staying in... I've got a proper Halloween pumpkin, an assortment of American candy and we're going to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, followed by some Halloween themed gaming... I even bought Witches outfits for our avatars... cauldrons included! Laughing

it has celtic roots...halloween is traditionally called all hallows eve, where, at midnight, the veil between our world and the world of the dead is at it's thinnest and the dead can cross over...

Our street is relatively quiet, or at least it has been for the past few years. We buy some candy just in case, but I don't think anybody has ever come trick or treating to us.

Normally I'm out in a costume with mates for the fun of it, but this year I feel like being a bitter person who sits in their house and broods. In other words, I'm not allowed out because I have to study. Way to go, HSC, ruining my precious Halloween. >.>

True, but it's a parental and self-imposed restriction. I love Halloween and all but in comparison I want to do well with these exams. I'll live.

Thats why I'm not taking my sister out this year... her first exam is on Monday (which is also her b'day).

We're just going to watch the first three Saw movies hehe. My boyfriend and I convinced his mother to watch the movie with us. She doesn't like scary movies so this should be a fun ride for her haha.

Oh ha ha, please stop, I've got a stitch from laughing so hard. I thought you were supposed to be dressing up as someone mean and evil for Halloween, if that's true then why would I dress as Cena, the embodiment of all that's good in the world? Besides I'd need to bulk up and get mega ripped pretty darn quickly.
Actually the comment did make me laugh. (probably not as much as it sounds like poke__egg did, yes you are mean Razz)

Admittedly - don't celebrate it myself. Not interested.
But I don't have a problem with it becoming a common Aussie holiday. Doesn't effect me.

I just love those Simpsons Tree house of horror episodes this time of year:

Bart and Lisa: DAD WE'VE DONE SOMETHING WRONG
Homer: Did you do wreck the car, Raise the dead
Lisa: NO WE RAISE THE DEAD
Homer: But IS the car still OK?
Zombies breakin
Homer: AGH! ZOMBIES
Zombies: BRAINS BRAINS
Zombies tap on Homers hollow head and then leave.
Homer: (Homer gets his shotgun and cocks it) To the simpson mobile
Zombie Ned Flanders: Hey Simpson, might if I chew ya EAR.
(Homer shoots him)
Bart: Hey you shoot Zombie Flanders
Homer: Flanders was a Zombie?

Zombie Principal Skinner: Martin come to the Principals office and bring that JUICY BRAIN of YOURS.

Theres a Classic Horror movie marathon on ABC2 Tonight:
Psycho and The Thing from another world

Speaking for Psycho even Simpson did a skit on this.

Principal Skinner in his office talking to Lisa and looks out the window to see his house (which is the house from Psycho) and starts talking to himself.
Principal Skinner: Oh look theres mother watching me, Mother it's a school night!, That sailor uniform doesn't fit anymore!.
Lisa: I think..I should go now.

I had some trick or treaters at my house today, which is surprisingly but unfortunately we had no candy to give away.

There are little kids running around the street in costumes now, and a party across the road. It always feels weird to see people trick or treating while the sun is still out.

when the kids come rocking up on your doorstep demanding candy and having not one ounce of an idea what halloween is really about (no, it's not all about being rude little syphillis to get free candy) then your not the only one who hates that it's becoming popular here.

And for the parents out there does it not seem weird that children are out taking lollies from strangers?

I think it's quite funny actually.. Parents spend their time teaching kids not to talk to strangers or take candy from them, and yet today they're doing just that. They're actually knocking on their doors asking for it. Do you really think the weirdos out there are going to care if it's 'Halloween' or not? Heck no.

At least with the 'Santa' thing they're in a public place..

you at least expect as a minimum the parent would be there at the same time. kids usually go out by themselves during halloween.

i would assume that santa would have a blue card as well. although, the process to get a blue card is ridiculous, send in application, receive bacon. i was told i needed one for my line of work, got one and then a year later im told by the exact same people i don't need one. it's a real joke.

tl:dr, sorry, got off topic alittle.

To me it's not so much the dangers of the specific old man, it's sending kids the message "ignore what we've been saying before, go sit with a strange old man".

Well this was a disapointing Halloween. It was too bloody hot today for anyone to think of going trick or treating early. Then later on, thunderstorms rolled in and made the night impossible as well.

I had one pair of kids drop by, and all they took was one small handful; I practically still have a full bowl of treats left!

Oh well, and the stores went to so much trouble this year to try and make Halloween a big occassion. Guess it didn't work in my area, I'm sure there was at least a few group of kids doing the rounds last year.

Isn't it more 'don't get in cars with strangers when mum and/or dad aren't there' that's the message we're trying to send?

I guess so, but with my pessimistic outlook, I prefer to be as comprehensive in my precautions as possible.

I have to say I find the whole commercialised halloween thing rather pointless and consumer-oriented. I understand the original idea of it but as soon as the whole trick-or-treat thing came around it has gone down hill. That's not to say you cant have fun...

oh and best horror movie ever: the Undead! (I know its not actually horror but still)

My brother and his wife got married on Halloween. It was a stormy day, too. The date certainly makes it easy to remember their Anniversary. I dyed my hair black that day. I wanted to put a white or purple steak through it as well, but I was shot down on that idea. Smile

Halloween was a huge let down in my street...First, group of kids were really cute, were dressed up as fairies and scary mutants, so I gave them lollies.
Next lot of kids come around; they weren't even dressed up as anything except one kid who had a scary mask on. I gave them lollies but then one fat kid who was just in a shirt and board shorts kinda just took a few lollies and ran off.
Then, the last two kids who appeared at my door were a couple of kids who were just on their bikes scabbing lollies off of people. But, at this point I refused to give them anything because they were just being scabs.

Call me bitter but if you're going to come around to my house on Halloween asking for lollies then I sort of expect some form of effort to get dressed up.
So, yeah...Hopefully, next year will be better!

At least the people who came to my house were dressed up. There was only 8 people who came so we just ate all of the Candy.

Except that Americans go stupid about everything. That's what they do, and just because they like to be the focus of things does not change the fact that it all originated Ireland and Scotland.
