I recently bought myself the boxset of the Perfect Collection which i believe came before the Platinum.(for only $30 bucks too)

The only difference i am aware of is the lack of the directors cut episodes but is there anything else like quality or any means of censoring that is in the Perfect collection. And should i get the Platinum collection anyways?

thanx.

The video quality in the Platinum Collection smokes the Original. You will notice on the original collection almost every time the scene changes the entire picture dances side-to-side. If you have a big screen TV it will drive you nuts. From memory the colour in the Platinum Collection is also infinitely better.

"Perfect Collection" was the term Madman used for complete boxsets several years ago. The Platinum release of NGE was a spruced-up rerelease of NGE.

Platinum collection is also remastered and has 5.1 audio where as the original Perfect Collection only has 2.0 audio.

Also the Platinum Collection is only 7 discs, where as the Perfect Collection is spead over 8 discs.

I reckon the directors cut eps are worth having, so yes, plus the final ep comes with Spike Spencer's rant which is always good for a laugh. Also how many discs are in your perfect collection? Any less then 8 then uh oh.

Does the Platinum Edition contain the director's cut episodes?

Only episodes 23-26, isn't it?

I've often wondered why 21 and 22 weren't included. Are they more similar to the original versions than the others?

The difference between in Platinum OP besides remastered video and audio is that the last two discs contain both the original and director's cut episodes and their respected dubs, however episodes 25 and 26 use the director's cut dubs which I found disappointing. The director's cut episodes are supposed to be the lead up to The End of Evangelion. I also find that 25 & 26 of the TV series could also fit into where Rei's version of Third Impact occurs and Eva-01 is crucified by Seele's mass production Evas. That is if you consider The End of Evangelion to be in 2016.

No, it includes all the director's cut episodes, 21 to 24.

25 and 26 were never remade as director's cuts.

So why were the Director's Cut discs split 21-23 and 24-26? I don't recall it being split six episodes on the first disc and four on the second (or three/one if you ignore the included original versions).

Well, that's how they turned out, disc 6 of platinum has episodes 21 to 23 both original versions and the Director's cuts, and disc 7 has episodes 24 to 26 and episode 24 director's cut.

The reason for all the confusion over the 25-26 cuts is because of the original dvd release of the director's cuts which listed 25 and 26 as director's cuts, but all that was different was the English dub had been re-recorded.
