(I could do this in the music forum, but it's specific to Cowboy Bebop, there's a new Cowboy Bebop forum, and damned if I'm not making a thread in it.)

We all know that Cowboy Bebop has one of the most kickarse anime soundtracks ever, composed by the Goddess herself, Yoko Kanno.

So, what's you're favourite song from the series?

I have a few, here are my top 4:

Blue (Episode 26 ED): The *best* song in all of CB. Absolutely magnificent. Mai Yamane has one of my favourite singing voices *ever*. I wish I knew what the choir sang in it though...

Space Lion (Episode 13 ED): This is what happens when you watch too much 'Blade Runner' before making a song to match a series with very similar themes. A beautiful saxaphone line, with african beats and a mysterious chorus, this song is fantastic.

Flying Teapot (from the 'Blue' OST): I can't remember where this occurs in the series (I think it relates to Ed?), however it's always had my favourite lyrics from CB, with the idea of locking away paradise for myself. Fantastic stuff.

The Real Folk Blues (ED theme, except for episodes 13 and 26): What is it with CB and ending themes? It has 3 of the best anime EDs ever, including the one we all know and love. A brilliant piece of music.

Other faves include 'LIVE From Baghdad' (now you know where that thread title came from...), 'Rain' (Mai Yamane version), 'Ask DNA' (from the movie), 'Seven Minutes' (also from the movie), 'Call Me, Call Me' (*sob*) and 'Chicken Bone' (goofy Ed song).

Post away...

I originally hated 'The Real Folk Blues' but I've warmed to it after listening to it so many times. I know like it better than Tank. Speaking of Tank, the Luke Vibert remix is fantastic!

EDIT: Ohh I just noticed you mentioned 'Call Me Call Me', I have this listed as a Cowboy Bebop track but never remembered hearing it in the show. I realize now that it IS infact from CBB!! Woot, its definately my favourite!

I love TANK!, but I'm also a big fan of the track played in EP1, with Spike's first fight, in the cafe.

SN: I think it's great having a music topic in this forum because
a) it's such an important part of the series.
b) I don't have to sift through the J-pop stuff to get to it!
(Don't worry ppls, SN is a great guy, and he's a friend of mine... i wouldn't be this nasty if I knew he wouldn't take it the right way)

Could also go to the J-pop forum for this quesiton I guess... but legit CB OSTs? The best places to go (melbourne preferably)? All I see are sonmays . Are the legit disks just like the dodgy ones (ie 3xOSTs, 1xremix?)
And, knowing I prefer the jazz rather than the country/blues stuff, which are the best OSTs to get?

Having only seen the first ten episodes and not being that familiar with the show I'll say Tank!. This may change though as I watch more Bebop.

You'll come around.

I would recommend looking online, or asking one of the shops to get them in. Initial D will get non-bootleg discs in if you ask them specifically, as will Tamarket. You'll know it's not a bootleg when you get charged about 3 times as much for it.

quote:

And, knowing I prefer the jazz rather than the country/blues stuff, which are the best OSTs to get?

Really, the variety of styles permeates across all the OSTs. The really jazzy stuff is mainly on the first OST (just called Cowboy Bebop), while the second OST (No Disc) has a mixture of Jazz and rock, and features the Iron Maiden-esque 'LIVE From Baghdad'. The third OST (Blue) is more a rock/funk workout.

The movie OST, Future Blues, also contains stuff from the series (Mai Yamane's version of 'Rain' for example), and is similar to Blue in style, though with more instrumentals, including the thundering 'Seven Minutes'.

There's also two EPs from the series, and two from the movie. Music For Freelance is the remix disc, featuring the Luke Vibert remix of Tank! among others, and really not worth your time unless you are into electronic music. Vitaminless, is, unfortunately, the only place you can get The Real Folk Blues. This means you'll pay an exhorbitant amount for a 7 track EP that you only want for one song. TRFB does not appear on any of the three series OSTs.

The movie spawned two EPs: Ask DNA, which (surprise surprise) contains the OP to the movie, Ask DNA, as well as 'Is It Real' and a few other pieces from the film not otherwise available on an OST.

The Cowgirl Ed OST (now *there's* a scary concept for a spin-off...) contains more stuff from the film, including 'Cosmic Dare'.

For a Jazz fan, I'd recommend the first OST. I'd also recommend Blue because everyone should have it.

Green Bird - Enchanting song, that was not only composed by Yoko Kanno, but also sung by her alias Gabrille Robins. The way Green Bird was used in CB was mindblowingly good.

Space Lion - Another enchanting song from Cowboy Bebop, this is my favourite ending though I haven't heard Blue yet.

And the song that plays during the last Spike and Vincent fight inthe movie.

CB's my second favorite anime in terms of music, with the first being Escaflowne.

Bad Dog No Biscuits or Tank! CB has one of the most amazing soundtracks i've heard, I have'nt found much else that comes close.

Favorite songs would have to be mostly from Episode 13:

Road to the West
Words that we couldn't say
Ep 13 ED : Space Lion
and of course, The Real Folk Blues. Great ending theme for a great series.

I like the blues/jazzy concept. All great tracks that compliment the action on screen so well.

I think it's great how some of my favourite music have come from an anime. Music is no longer restricted to stuff you hear on the radio or from a CD.

Great stuff.

I like them equally. That's a nice safe answer

From what I've heard of the second OST, I like:

Fantasie Sign (thank heavens I speak French)
Don't Bother None
Live In Baghdad

I love awesome instrumentals to relax to so Space Lion has to be my favourite CB song.
I mean really, can you think of a more relaxing piece of music to listen to. Man I know I can't.

Rush was perfect for the first fight scene against Asimov.

Also, whoever's after Ed's song I'm pretty sure it's The Egg and I.

This may not be the track you're looking for, but some regard Ed's theme song as Cats on Mars.
For anyone wanting a preview, that's the track that plays in the trailer for Jamming with Edward.

I actually posted this six hours ago, but the board accused me of double posting.

Ten minutes to down town. It's ten minutes too far. When my friends all say i'm crazy. Maybe I'm being selfish? Maybe I'm just scared. Don't be gone when I get home. I need you there. If I had to explain it. I woulden't know where to start. It's like you fall in love while I just fall apart. Ten minutes to down town. It's ten minutes too far. When my heart is saying your crazy. Maybe things are geting better. Maybe things aren't so bad. Don't be gone when I get home. You're all I have. - The Get Up Kids.

i think i will make some input in the topic as i have seen the hole series and the music trully rocks, the thing that makes it different is that the music dosent sound all the same,E.G as in eva (which i love).
My fav songs are:-1 THE REAL FOLK BLUES, 2 Pushing the sky,3. 3.14 (off FUTURE BLUES it is in the movie),4 Goodnight Julia,5 Fantaisie Sign, 6 Black Coffee (from Vitaminless)and CALL ME CALL ME (just love this song at the end of the series (if i rember correctly if not can someone correct me)
