Time to lay down the smack- the series is called FuriKuri (or FLCL). No other names are acceptable. Assassins are being dispatched to America as we speak.

Actually, I'm not sure if FuriKuri should be acquired for Australian release. When I suggested Revolutionary Girl Utena everyone panned the idea saying is was too weird. Right. Too weird. Now, what were you saying about FLCL again? Don't get me wrong, I love it to pieces, but Australian release?

Take your smack elsewhere, otaku freakboy.
Go back to your fansub fantasy world where you can dance in your self deluded superiority complex with the other IRC fanboys.

The director himself, TSURUMAKI, has said that it is Fooly Cooly, and if it were released here, it would be released as Fooly Cooly as well and this is precisely why I named it that way, not for your limited comprehension, but to make a suggestion to Madman.

Lain could be said as being too weird and Boogiepop Phantom could be said as being too weird and yet they were and are being released respectively. I think you need to find a new everyone to hang with.

I've read the first couple of chapters of the manga and I don't understand this at all!!! My mind practically exploded.

There's some kid riding around on a tricycle, and that's all I could understand ...

Is it just me?

Annoyingly for those of us that know the series is called Fooly Cooly, both the Production IG and GAiNAX websites refer to it as Furi Kuri. What gives it away, however, is the use of FLCL itself. Furi Kuri is a Japanese pronunciation of 'flcl' (say it as a word... foolcool... fooly cooly... see?). If it were to be called Furi Kuri, the title would be FRKR, not FLCL.

I don't recall fansubbers calling it 'Seriaru Ekusuperimentsu Arain'. Though I did recently see a fansub of 'Noir' that spelt Mireille as 'Mireiyu'. Fortunately they didn't use 'Nowaru' as a title...

The manga is even more insane than the anime and you'll understand things better (somewhat) if you watch the anime first. The manga is to the anime like the NGE manga is to the anime - not exact, but similar. They decided to take the FLCL manga to a whole new level of insanity beyond the anime.

However, I never had a problem understanding FLCL once I'd seen all the OAVs, so I can't understand why people think it's insane. Maybe it's because I am a GAiNAX fanboy...

But it's funnier to call things by their stupid Japanese names.

Same here I've had the last ep sitting in it's cd case for the last 4 months, it was an okay series but way too overhyped for it's own good (could say the same about another gainax series).

But don't mind me I only really like Gunbuster and Maharomactic so i'm not a gainax whore

I went into FLCL knowing absolutely nothing about it. I didn't even know it was by GAiNAX until the credits rolled. It was Trunk's Girl's squeals of delight that brought the anime to my attenion (that was before her squeals went to Noir).

I've only seen two GAiNAX titles completely anyway, so maybe I'm not qualified to be a GAiNAX fanboy. Maybe fanembryo.

Up yours, a$$hole! If you have no sense of humour, you should just keep your cakehole shut and stay out of the way of people with anything even approaching that strange and mysterious thing called "wit". That was totally uncalled for. >

And my main objection isn't to the FLCL/FRKR thing- but it should be spelled FuliKuli, not Fooley Cooley which sounds like some kind of American soft drink.

Besides, everyone knows that arguing over niggling little details is half the fun of being an anime otaku.

And if you've got a problem with otaku, you can go and shove it.

(In case you haven't guessed yet, you REALLY ****ed me off. Who wouldn't be?)

We've still agreed to disagree, right Jeranon?

As far as being overhyped goes: Who has been hyping it? Companies that distribute it? No. Was it fans? Could it possibly be? Could that mean that it is good?

Going by that logic Ingram, Dragonball Z is the best anime series ever made....since it has more fans saying it ownz than any other anime out their

Anywayz

Watched FlCL ep 6 yesterday and while it was quite good, this series didn't just click with me. Gunbuster is still my favourite Gainax series, and FLCL was too wierd for it's own good. Maybe watching the 6 eps of this over 4 months didn't help but I didn't feel a need to watch the next ep because....i dunno.

I'll watch it again sometime....hopefully madman r4 copies of it.

And the best reason why I ignore everyone's opinions on something - good or bad or indifferent. I wish everyone would just shut up and let people decide for themselves. Eg Noir may be better than most, you may have seen better, but who gives a flying ferret's fart? You'd do me a big favour if or when you are about to click the submit reply button that you instead click the x in the top right hand corner to save me the time to ignore your post.

of course, i do have trouble doing the same at times...

If your original intention was to **** me off, then I was right- you really are an a$$hole. And that wasn't my best effort- but if you want we can have a creative insults duel (kind of like in Escape from Monkey Island). I've never lost yet, because my opponents usually are imbred, moronic orangutans whose undewear doubles as a handkerchief. I'm really riled up now, so are you game?

Along with fixing your spelling and grammar for you, I think you're really reaching with that one. Look at the demographics. DBZ targets the 6-16 male market, which is huge. It is also marketed beyond belief. Ergo, it has a huge fanbase.

FLCL has had no marketing and you really have to make an effort to see it. It wins on merit alone, even among jaded fanboys.

Might I point you towards my sig as well?

Ripped from AoD
Quote:
FLCL Update (01:32 PM EST): We got in a small press release from Synch-Point today that has given us the new formal release date for FLCL Vol. #1. It's now set for 08/13/2002. Apparently a video glitch was found in the master, so they're going back to fix that. In addition to the commentary track that's being done as a special extra, they're adding a bonus booklet insert with extra information about FLCL that includes over 20 pages of exclusive liner note information, background PLUS special manga sequence translation.

Some how, I don't see Madman getting the booklet... This may be looking like an import...

Spare a thought for the Japanese with their massive one episode per DVD with zero extras - a common release. Synch-Point are cramming the extras along with two episodes per DVD to tempt the more value minded Western buyer.

But in my mind, FLCL is that good. Others may disagree.

I was debating whether to import it , but now I'll probably get it regardless if Madman licences it or not. I can't really see them putting all the extras on.

Thanks for the info Jeranon
