What's the difference between Dragonball: Path to Power and Dragonball: Mystical Adventure? On dragonball.com they both have exactly the same description/blurb/summary (woteva ya wanna call it). And also, do these movies fit anywhere in the dragonball timeline or are they like the dbz movies where they don't really fit in at all?

If you've seen any Dragonball/Z movies you'll know that none of them fit in the regular time line. As for movie 3 & 4 having the same blurb. That's Funimation's fault. They are completely different movies (ie. Movie 3 is great & movie 4 is above average). Movie 4 is a retelling of the beginning (just like movie 1), while movie 3 is a retelling of the Tournament saga. Oh yeah, & the backs of the DVDs themselves have completely different blurbs as well.

Movie 2 is a retelling of Goku meeting Krillin. It has no tournament however. It is an extended version of their quest to find Master Roshi a girl Wink

Well, we are nigh on the eve of the release of DBGT and movie 8 and still no cover art has been produced.
Does anyone have the images of the cover art that madman will be using for these titles?
As we all know, the DBGT ones FUNimation used were horrible, and i was just wondering if this was being rectified.

Sorry KBW but it has already been revealed in another thread on this board that the cover art will be the same as the USA releases as Madman has no choice in the covers as Funi wouldn't allow them to change the covers...

Yes, they are using the R1 covers. I can't really see as its a 'no choice' deal though, more of a 'cant be bothered'. I can understand why though, its 22 or so volumes that need to be personally created, for a title like Dragonball GT which will sell regardless I can see why they mightn't have bothered.

Movie 8's R1 cover:

Damn... They sure didn't want us to miss the spelling error, did they? o_O;;; *scribbles BROLLI on Funi's collective forehead* They're also marketing it as a "feature" instead of the 8th movie, interesting.

Actually... Broly sounds more.. I dunno... correct?

And I dunno, might be marketting it as a feature because its longer than the other dbz films. it almost enters actual movie time. (and it's quite possibly widescreen?)

Didn't they do that with Movie 5 - 7? Or some of the movies? I'm sure FUNi has done it before.

Yes, Funimation has marketed all movies since 4 as a "Feature", Madman doesnt follow this though.

Thankfully Madman keep the words "Movie Special" on the covers, "Feature" just doesn't sound right!

Yeah, I got it this afternoon. I can't say I'm overly enthused with Funi's use of music in this one, but the original Japanese version is great compared to the dub for it. Fights are good, story is one of the better of the movies dubbed so far, and it goes for alot longer than previous movies!

Again, I am annoyed and will be boycotting the dub due to a lack of 5.1 soundtrack on the English track.

My copy has English 5.1 and 2.0 as well as Japanese 2.0 (They appear on the Audio On Screen Display of my DVD Player). Is it in 5.1 or just in 2.0 but displayed as 5.1?

If you have a DVD-ROM you would be able to tell easily. Just have a look in the setup menu of the movie to see if it actually says "English 5.1" and not just English.

The setup menu does say English 5.1, English 2.0, and Japanese 2.0 (and you don't need a DVD-ROM to see it either). My point was if there isn't a 5.1 track as you previously mentioned then why is it displayed as 5.1? Obviously there is a 5.1 track otherwise it wouldn't be offered as an audio option to play the movie with that track.

Please don't take this the wrong way, the way I worded my original question was a bit dodgy! Smile

No, your alright!

I was judging by the packaging, I dont have my copy yet as Im waiting for it still (.hack//sign being delayed has caused my whole order to be delayed). I was just assuming as:
a) Movie 5 and 6 both had the big (Includes 5.1 DD) on the front cover, this does not.
b) Movie 7 didnt get the 5.1 soundtrack.
c) EzyDVD listed it as 2.0 sound, and they normally correct all features\extras once they get the stock in.

In this event, I SHALL be watching the English dub, thanks ^^

Mom just got back from America yesterday and, not knowing that Movie 8's been released here now, bought me it on R1 DVD Very Happy But upon watching it, I was disappointed to see that the video is all pixellated; there aren't any smooth lines in sight. I would take a screenshot, but my PowerDVD's gone and gotten itself stuck on Region 3, so it's buggered. What's the video look like on the Australian release?

Oh, and I watched the 5.1 English dub because my Dad can't read the tiny white subtitles (Thanks Funi Rolling Eyes ), and the dialogue was actually pretty damn close to the Japanese. ^_^ Hooray!

What sort of music are they using in the english release of Movie #8?

They had brilliant music in #5, but didnt follow up in #6 or #7.........
The track by Breaking Point at the end of #5 - 'Phoenix' was so fitting it rocked. Then throw in Deftones, Drowning Pool and the rest - was it unpopular to use that music, or did they just not bother?

I have the Japanese version of #8, and Brolly rocks Twisted Evil
Just hoping they do the music again........................

The music itself is fine, but sometimes it doesn't 'fit' with the scene. They tend to do that alot.

Yes, it didn't make a whole lot of sense.

The music just fit the scenes perfectly though.....
But I was never a huge fan of the original japanese scores for most manga.

So who makes the decision on the music to be used in the english dubs?
Funimation or Madman?

FUNimation make that decision. Madman only distribute the DVD/Videos within Australia.

Looks good....I actually think they did a good job at dubbing
this one....although there are times when Paragus talks and
it doesnt match his mouth....looks like old Bruce Lee film Laughing

Like the music in it too...Not too much, and fits in with the
fight scenes.

I was very disapointed with Gt due to the fact that they have mised the first 15 episodes. The first one in english starts in the middle of the japanese episode 15 and flashes bach through the first three episodes. Those who havent seen it in Japanese are missing some very funny episodes.

When I said it "looks good" I was replying to her question on what it looks like on the R4

Oh, that reminds me. Packaged in with my R1 Movie 8 were 3 Brolli promo cards Mr. Green Snazzy. And I didn't think the voice of Brolli was too bad, and he certainly pulled off the crazy laughter well, although he needed to work on his screams...

Has anyone bought the GT releases yet? If so, are they good and worth buying? I'm in two minds about it because of all the anti-GT talk in other threads.

(Please, don't go on about how bad the dub is etc, I just want to know if they are worth buying or not...)
