Hey does anybody know if madman will be releasing an empty box when they release Cowboy Bebop in the box set? Because they did this with Evangelion.

It may not be available by itself in shops like EB though, they tend to not sell them seperately.

Probably have to get it direct from Madman, either over the internet, at a con, or (since you live in Melbourne) going to their shop. Razz

after release date if via the website but your quickest best is to order through specialised anime stores or comic book stores that deal with the AV Channel.

Last time I heard it was somewhere in Fitzroy/Collingwood in Melbourne, but now I have no idea. I'd like to know too, so I can make a visit.

they moved into the building next door. Address is now 1-35 Wellington St Collingwood instead of 51. The old building is still being occupied by the AV Channel though.

What price would it be? Cause I do think $20 for just a box is a bit much.

I dont think $20 is unreasonable for boxes that hold 6+ DVDs, though I think it is quite steep for the 4 DVD sets, $12-15 is more reasonable for those. Boxes aren't cheap to produce and are collectors items, so you know what you pay for when you get it.

I agree with Anything below 5 should be discounted. The bigger the box, the more money it should be. But it should never go over $20.

The guys from Madman sold me an empty BGCT2040 and Nadesico box for $15 each. They even had to take all the discs out of a full box set to give it to me. Much thanks for that Very Happy .

$20 for cardboard is a hefty amount. Perhaps Madboard members could get a discount at the Madman store?

discount to 3000 members.... do you really think that it's economically viable?
retailers will also have a field day. These boxes do cost money to make remember.

The boxes arn't just cardboard they have the art on em and there better than normal cardboard boxes, they don't crap up as easily( as i found with the .hack box) so $20 is a good price

Yeah, it does seem expensive. But when you put two and two together, you can see why they are worth $20.

there are only 6 discs in the series, but the box will have room for both the movie and best sessions discs... making a total of 8 spots

I just picked up the Cowboy Bebop boxset for $125 at Kmart today! Its good to finally have the box - damn lack of money prohibited me from previous attempts. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that this Kmart has no other anime except Animatrix and a single disc of Beyblades (which I looked at with disgust.) I asked the person who served me (a cute blonde with freckles) why have Cowboy Bebop there and she said that its one in the top 20 best selling Dvd's. And it was next to stuff like Matrix Revolutions and the Indiana Jones box.

It looks as if CB is getting pretty popular...

My K-mart got CB DVD's from the start, when they were first released by Madman.

Actually the RRP of the Bebop box is $149.95. Madman are probebly just charging more because its a bigger title and it'll sell, though I think its a bit pricey still considering they just sold all 6 volumes for just $17 during that anime Animatrix promotion.

They charge a little more for an 8-DVD box as it costs even more to make.

Gasaraki was an 8 DVD box with 8 actual DVDs and it only cost $130. That kind of blows your theory Wink

Huh? No it doesn't, Gasaraki's still more expensive then comparitive 6 DVD box titles, such as Nadesico and BGC2040.

I was under the impression that although only having 6 dvd's the box is big enough for 8 which was the point being made. CB is also one of the bigger titles, meaning the price can be increased to maximise profits above cost, thus CB is comparable to Evangelion which is an 8 disk release and much more expensive the CB ($30 more).

Gasaraki was cheaper because it wasn't a popular series like BGC2040, EVA and Cowboy Bebop. Also, because the box is made for 8 DVD's and not 6 adds more price.

alot of people think that it's all because of maximising profit. In some ways it's true, however its usually because of the licensing agreements meaning that royalties are set as x amount then you factor in materials, shipping, production, profit margin, retailers profit.. thats where your RRP comes from.

Yes I know that, I just couldn't be bothered explaining the whole complicated cost structure of anime dvd's in Australia just to make a simple point which is still relevant either way.

I was very lucky/asse as far as the boxset goes. Razz
I was walking through kmart and in the corner of the dvd/cd section I happened to look up at the very top of the shelf and saw one of the corners and there it was.
The last one and with their sale it only ended up costing me $105 if I hadn't looked up I'd never have seen it at all. I will never bad mouth Kmart again. Very Happy

I will, because they sold me a box set with screwed discs the 1st time, then with chipped/broken DVD cases the second time. One praise I can give em is they don't have a tight-arse return policy.
